The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is an international exposition of living cultural heritage annually produced outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., by the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The 2012 Festival takes place June 27th to July 1st and from July 4th - July 8th and is free to the public.
The Festival includes daily and evening programs of music, song, dance, celebratory performance, crafts and cooking demonstrations, storytelling, illustrations of workers' culture, and narrative sessions for discussing cultural issues. It also encourages visitors to participate-to learn, sing, dance, and eat traditional foods.
