Tactile, visual, stimulating, unfamiliar, scary, familiar, comforting—objects help us create and understand our world. Join the educators of the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center for a two-day program exploring objects with young children. Together we’ll discover the rich learning opportunities afforded by the objects around us in museums, libraries, kitchens, or the local park.  This program features hands-on, object-based exercises, gallery visits, guided discussions, and lectures from educators and artists. Our staff will present information drawn from SEEC’s 25 years of learning with children in museums combined with research on the science of learning to provide educators with models for more creative encounters with objects in and out of museums. Come join us at the Smithsonian for a boost of inspiration or continuing education credits for DC teachers (or both!). Together we’ll stretch our thinking and explore some fabulous objects.  Some walking to additional locations may be required. Please alert organizers if you have concerns about walking.
