A pair of acclaimed writers, both of whom overcame challenging circumstances to publish award-winning poetry collections, discuss The Human Voice in Struggle at Folger Theatre. William Archila spent his childhood in El Salvador before immigrating to the U.S. with his family in 1980. His well-reviewed books include The Art of Exile and The Gravedigger's Archaeology. Reginald Dwayne Bates' path took him from jail all the way to Yale Law School and beyond. His work A Question of Freedom: A Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age in Prison won the 2010 NAACP Image Award for nonfiction.
