Ring in the Year of the Monkey as the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra makes its Kennedy Center debut with this Chinese New Year concert. Maestro Muhai Tang, chief conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic and artistic director of the Shanghai Philharmonic, conducts this program exploring the musical exchange between the East and West. Chinese orchestral and traditional folk music will be heard alongside what is maybe the most well known example of a Western composer's take on China -- Puccini's Turandot, excerpted for this concert and featuring four stunning voices. Pianist Haochen Zhang and violinist Dan Zhu will also feature in this cross-cultural concert of works by Yuankai Bao, Franz Waxman, Xinghai Xian and Jianan Sun.
