The Suzanne Farrell Ballet Dances Three Balanchine Classics

One of the premier ballerinas of the 20th century, Suzanne Farrell is famed as the great muse of legendary choreographer George Balanchine. A longtime star with the New York City Ballet and a 2005 Kennedy Center honoree, Farrell's troupe has been the Kennedy Center's own ballet company for 15 years and was deemed "one of America's most valuable companies" by The New York Times. For this program, the company presents its first performances of two of Balanchine's ballets created in 1958: Stars and Stripes and Gounod Symphony. Stars and Stripes is ebulliently patriotic, featuring baton twirling, Sousa marches, military formations and rifle-bearing ballerinas, while Gounod Symphony is a geometric celebration, incorporating 30 dancers, of classic Balanchine style. They'll also bring back an audience favorite, Danses Concertantes, which includes music from Stravinsky.
