You may exchange your country's currency for U.S. currency at several nearby banks. Most banks are only open Monday through Friday, and are closed for federal holidays.
Many Washington, DC attractions offer multilingual brochures. These include the Library of Congress, the White House Visitors Center, the Kennedy Center, and Mount Vernon. Obtain multilingual brochures for the Smithsonian museums at the Castle visitors' center.
Passport & Visa Requirements
For those traveling in and out of the United States, a valid passport, U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, Air NEXUS card, or Alien Registration Card Form I-551 is required. This includes travel between the U.S. and Canada or Mexico.
International travelers can find out about whether or not they need a visa to enter the United States by going to travel.state.gov.
At their first point of entry into the United States, travelers must fill out customs and immigration forms, even if this is not their final destination.
You do not need travel or health insurance to come into the United States, although it is recommended.
Tours of the White House & Capitol
Non-United States citizens need to contact their embassy in Washington, DC to sign up for tours. Go to www.embassy.org. Tickets for public tours are required and must be reserved in advance.
