The observation deck is 500 feet in the sky. There are 8 windows from which to look, and one can see all of Washington, DC as well as parts of Maryland and Virginia. Some points of interest to look for include the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Tidal Basin, the Jefferson Memorial, the Potomac River, and the National Arboretum.
INSIDE THE MONUMENT
When in operation, the elevator rides up 500 feet to the observation deck takes approximately 70 seconds. During that time, a National Park Ranger provides facts and commentary. After looking around the observation deck, visitors take the stairs down 10 feet to the Museum. After visiting the Museum, board the elevator to descend. The elevator ride takes 2 minutes and has commentary as well as slowdowns to see views of the Monument's interior.
